Comment on Sometimes you lose the big one. by Mike Herrick https://www.tailflyfishing.com/sometimes-you-lose-the-big-one/#comment-228 Thu, 04 Oct 2018 16:18:41 +0000 https://www.tailflyfishing.com/?p=3856#comment-228 Been there had that happen to me.
Fishing the Acklins byte, I hooked a nice Permit which ran to a channel and there in 20 feet of crystal clear water I watch him wrap around a sea fan. At first I didn’t pull, knowing what would be the result.
Eventually gave in to the enevitable
Which is worse the sea fan wrap or the saw off on the barrier coral reef on the east side of Turneffe Atoll

Enjoyed the story, going permit fishing next week @ Blackfly, hope to repeat your experience w/o the weather and lost fish.

I have all my land lubber friends follow with that plan, and never have I had my friends blow their beets on a trip out. The Dramamine is already in their system when we leave the dock.

Comment on Palolo Worm Hatch by Admin https://www.tailflyfishing.com/palolo-worm-hatch/#comment-183 Thu, 19 Jul 2018 05:40:18 +0000 https://www.tailflyfishing.com/?p=2803#comment-183 In reply to Leslie Harris.

Hi Leslie,
You might be right, but our source provided these as photos of the palolo worm. We are not scientists so determining minute differences in marine worm species is not our strength. You must agree they have a very similar appearance and are easily mistaken. We are experts in publishing a factual saltwater fly fishing magazine and as our research and fact-checking reveal that the information contained in the feature is correct. Without a degree in marine biology, it is hard for our staff members to differentiate between the species photographically and we apologize for that. See below are the images of the palolo worm and under it, the Rag Worm:

The worms you’re seeing are rag worms, family Nereididae. Unlike the palolo, in which only the posterior end of the worm breaks off & swims to the surface, these nereids transform large portions of their bodies to become better swimmers in order to reach the surface.

Comment on Another summer, another water crisis in Florida. Didn’t we VOTE in the last election in regard to the water?
The health of the people should be top priority!
